The Challenge

  • A corrosion survey and ultrasonic thickness testing were required to determine the severity of section loss on an underground pipeline.
  • Heavy corrosion was present throughout the pipeline.
  • The confined space was classified NC4, with complex access and egress.

Our Solution

  • Confined space working procedures were adopted, with a rescue team on standby to ensure confined space regulations were adhered to.
  • The survey was carried out by PCN Level 2 qualified NDT technicians and an ICorr Level 3 coating inspector.
  • Heavy corrosion deposits were removed so accurate UT readings could be taken. These enabling works were carried out by the inspection team to improve efficiency.
  • A detailed report provided sufficient data for a structural assessment of the pipeline, along with maintenance recommendations.
